MASSIVE ATTACK

Thursday 05/07/2018 ORANGE MAIN STAGE

2018 will be full of important anniversaries for Massive Attack. The band established in Bristol by 3D, Daddy G and Mushroom will celebrate its 30th anniversary. These three decades were a time of a trip-hop great triumph, breakthrough albums, great popularity and responsibility that band members understand as getting involved in socio-political issues, without pretending that the artist has no right to his own opinions or that he should be neutral. Music as a comment for reality, a concert as a happening – this is what they taught us throughout the years, making their listeners sensitive to the most important issues.

Massive Attack created trip-hop. “Blue Lines”, their debut from 1991 is a complete album, matchless in its category. “ Protection” from 1994 still remains a trip-hop essence with accents of jazz and chill out. Their second album “Mezzanine” was released in 1998 – without this album, the electronic music from the last decade of 20th century would not be the same genre as it is today.

There are many reasons to hear the most important songs from their repertoire at Open’er. There’s also a chance that we’ll hear something brand new from Massive Attack.

We already had the first glimpse of the possible, future Massive Attack directions in 2016 on “Ritual Spirit” EP. For the first time since 1994 it was possible to hear Tricky in Massive Attack songs.
